Dr. Blank believes that each of our patients deserve the very best that modern dentistry has to offer. To achieve this, Dr. Blank studied neuromuscular dentistry at the respected Center for Excellence in Cleveland, Ohio. He understands the whole-mouth system, which includes teeth, gums, bones, joints, and associated muscles and nerves. This knowledge allows him to design dental work that optimizes oral health and promotes harmony throughout all parts of the entire system. Dental work lasts longer and functions more comfortably when the neuromuscular system works in unity and balance.
If you suffer from headaches, a popping or clicking jaw joint, tooth wear, teeth grinding, or chronic earaches, your jaw joints may be misaligned. This condition is called TMJ disorder. TMJ stands for temporomandibular joints, which refers to the two joints that hold the jaw to the skull and allow the mouth to open and close. When these joints aren't properly aligned, muscles can become fatigued, nerves irritated, and antagonizing symptoms result. Dr. Blank uses a TENS unit to electronically stimulate and relax jaw muscles so that they move into the optimal, natural position. Then, with a K7, he records the position.
One treatment option involves creating a mouthguard or ”orthotic” based on the proper jaw position. The custom orthotic repositions the jaw into the proper position so that muscles can be retrained. It also stops nighttime teeth grinding (bruxism). A similar, but less custom appliance, the NTI-tss, also stops bruxism, which can be the cause or result of TMJ dysfunction.
Another option, Invisalign clear braces, repositions teeth into proper alignment, which will make the jaw move into proper alignment, as well. Similarly, building up back teeth with crowns can reposition the bite and jaw joints. These conservative therapies have helped many people find relief from the nagging symptoms, migraines, and inhibited oral function caused by TMJ disorder.
